History and Reputation

Newcastle University is one of Australia's top research institutions and one of the leading international universities. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs at five faculties, including Business & Law, Education & Social Sciences, Engineering & Construction, Health, Science & Information Technology.

University of Newcastle which founded in 1965 as a state university, is considered to be one of the top 10 universities in Australia, and among the top 100 universities in the world in Engineering, Technology and Computer Science. University of Newcastle is also ranked as the 266th University in the world by the Times Higher Education Supplement.

University of Newcastle has more than 30,000 students and out of these 30.000 students they have 6700 international students who are currently studying at the university. There are 84 undergraduate and 96 graduate programs are offered by 880 academics who are currently working at the university.

Campus and Location

Newcastle is the second largest city in New South Wales and the sixth largest city in Australia which is located 2 hours from North Sydney and on the east coast of Australia. The business centre, the beach and harbour are located in the same area by the Pacific Ocean coast. Even though the population is 500.000, trade, health and education industries are really popular in the city. Newcastle offers a relaxed lifestyle with a great climate and low living costs.

The university, which was founded in 1965, provide education on 5 campuses; Callaghan, City Precinct, Central Coast, Sydney CBD, Singapore.

The largest campus is located on an area of 125 hectares in Callaghan where is 12 km from Newcastle city centre. The Central Coast campus is located on an area of 80 hectares which is next to a national park area in Ourimbah where between Sydney and Newcastle. The University's Music Conservatory and Business School are located in the city centre of Newcastle. Newcastle University also has a campus in Sydney city centre, where it offers language training and the most demanding master's programs.

All kinds of sports facilities, shopping facilities, banks, post office, travel agency, health centre, guidance and career counselling services are available to support students' education in the campus. Also, there are students and sports clubs, student hall cafes and restaurants and entertainment centres are available for the students.

Work Permission

In Australia, students have full-time work permits during their study. Students also have 18-month residency and full-time work permits in Australia after a 2-year master's degree.

Opportunities for International Students

Since 1988, the University Language Education Centre offers language training programs to international students who are not sufficient for their university education. All courses offered by the centre, which is also accredited by the official IELTS test centre.

Entry Requirements

Each program has different entry requirements. Four-year high school graduate diploma, to have a first-year university degree in their own country or to complete a foundation programme are required for the undergraduate programmes. For the master program, they must be university graduates. In order to show the proof of their English proficiency, IELTS is required to get 5.5 for the foundation program, 6.0 for undergraduate programs, and 6.5 for master programs. It is also possible for students who do not have sufficient English to study English at the university. It is recommended that applications be made at least 6 months before the start of the Programs.
